Preston Norman Payne, age 71, of Pratt, Kansas

Preston Norman Payne, age 71, of Pratt, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021 in Cassville, Missouri.

            He was born March 25, 1950 in Carnegie, Oklahoma the son of Charles and Nellie (Giles) Payne. On September 9, 1975 in Alva, Oklahoma he was united in marriage to Patsy Doyle, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Jeff Payne and his wife Christina of Purcell, Oklahoma; four daughters, Shawn Schowengert and her husband Dr. Dan of Coldwater, Kansas, Kelly Rasmussen and her husband Duane and Tammy Marron and her husband Tommy all of Pratt, Kansas and Terri Lipps and her husband Steve of Fort Myers, Florida; one brother, Charles Payne and his wife Diane of Tyron, Oklahoma; nineteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

            Preceding him in death were parents and three brothers, Byron, Gary and Kenny.

             Preston graduated from high school in Spearman, Texas and then attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University. After college he began working in the oil fields, eventually purchasing an oil field service called Analytical Logging. For twenty-two years he was employed by Union Pacific Railroad, retiring as an engineer. The last fifty years he resided in Pratt, Kansas. Some of his favorite pastimes were playing golf, fishing and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

            Private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
