Richard “Dickie” Joe Hollis, 67, of Washburn, MO
Richard “Dickie” Joe Hollis, 67, of Washburn, MO left this world for his heavenly home on April 6, 2022, at Mercy Hospital - Springfield with his devoted wife and oldest grandchild by his side.
Dickie was born on August 28, 1954, to Richard and Virginia (Carney) Hollis in Chelsea, OK. On May 17, 1975, he was united in marriage to Glenda Hollis, who survives. To this union two children were born, Travis and Tiffany.
Dickie graduated from Southwest High School in 1972. He worked for EFCO for 26 years before he was unable to continue due to a major stroke in 2007. At this time, he was told he had a max of 5 years left of life on this Earth. In the last 14+ years he has defied those odds with pure orneriness and stubbornness.
Dickie loved his wife and children more than anything else, with the exception of his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy and they shared a special bond filled with lots of stories and inside jokes.
In addition to his parents, Dickie was preceded in death by four brothers, Doug Hollis, Bill Underwood, Jake Underwood, and Clyde Underwood; three sisters, Beverly Horton, Bessie Squires, and Opal Jeffries and a special sister-in-law, Kathy Curry.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Hollis of the home; one son, Travis Hollis and wife Sandrith of Medellin, Colombia; one daughter, Tiffany Colf and husband David of Seligman, MO; two granddaughters, Kalie Dycus and husband Spencer of Centerton, AR and Macy Colf of Seligman, MO; four grandsons, Leland Colf and fiancée Myka Cook of Neosho, MO, Riley Hollis of Rogers, AR, Tanner Hollis of Rogers, AR and Landon Colf of Seligman, MO; one great-granddaughter, Mallory Dycus and one brother, Davey Hollis of Skiatook, OK.
After his first stroke in 2007, his wife served as his 24/7 caretaker where Dickie always came first. Dickie’s final wishes focused on making “Life without Dickie” as stress-free as possible for his wife who embodied her commitment to him in sickness and in health. He requested to be cremated and for his ashes to be buried with Glenda at her time of passing. He wanted their lives to be remembered together, not apart. Therefore, there will be no events planned for just him, as he wished. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
As an alternative to flowers to honor Dickie’s life, a memorial donation account has been set up at Peoples Community Bank in Washburn along with a GoFundMe to help with medical expenses.
