Dick was a calm, comforting, and wise man. He was a believer of Christ and loved reading scripture. Through trials and tribulations he remained the family's harbor, refuge, and safety. Family was of the utmost importance to him--he was a loving husband, dad, and Poppa. He was an avid gardener, world traveler, bird watcher, reader, believer, leader, and a friend to many. He never knew a stranger. Everything he did was done with grace and honesty and without fanfare.
As we write this today, we are heartbroken, longing for one more story, one more text or call, or even one more joke. But today, we are doing our best to do what you taught us which is surrounding our family during this time with love.
We will think of you every time we hear a story about the Navy.
We will hear your laughter echoing throughout the home.
We will smell the flowers and remember your passion for gardening.
We will taste your famous pork and beans and spaghetti.
We will remember your wisdom.
Thank you for being an anchor for the family.
Thank you for your love, grace, and kindness.
Thank you for your eighty-four years of love.
Your legacy lives on in the countless lives you touched with your kindness and love for The Lord.
