Sharon Lee Simpson

July 20, 1943 – February 1, 2023

On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, Sharon Lee Simpson, 79, of Galena, MO. went to be with our Savior after a long battle with COPD.

Sharon fiercely fought to live a comfortable life with her illness while being a testimony of her faith. With our Lord leading the fight, she was with us over ten years longer than doctors predicted. God’s will was done with His sweet grace in the extra years we were able to have with her.

Sharon was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on Tuesday, July 20, 1943, to Arnold Hurtie and Mabel (Hurtie) Clark. With her father being mostly absent from her life, Sharon and her mother lived through many hardships. Mother Mabel died from bone marrow cancer, as Sharon slept on a cot at the side of her bed, caring for her until her mom took her last breath. At the time, Sharon was a young mother with two small children.

Sharon continued using her gift of care giving when she worked for Social Rehabilitation Services as a Caregiver for seventeen years. She didn’t just take care of daily needs but Sharon made each of her clients feel loved and important. She and her husband, Larry Simpson, 82, would make wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. Before sitting down with family, Larry and Sharon would take dinners to several of her clients and spend a little time with them to make sure they weren’t alone on the holidays.

Sharon met Larry when she was two years old, and he was four. Their mothers were friends who worked together. After losing touch over the years, the mothers ran into each other. Larry’s mother, Juanita, saw Sharon, who was now fourteen. Juanita told Larry he needed to see Sharon because she was very pretty. Larry, who was now 16 was instantly smitten when he saw her on his porch. They married when Sharon was sixteen and Larry was eighteen. They would have been married sixty-three years on March 6, 2023.

Sharon was rarely seen without a little dog in her arms, having been a fur baby mama for almost her entire married life.

Sharon loved shopping at secondhand stores. She would stay until the doors closed, having meticulously gone through all the racks and shelves to find hidden treasures to bring home. Many times, she would buy her own donations without even realizing it.

Sharon was a member of Cedar Ridge Baptist Church and loved being able to attend. In the last year, she was homebound many Sundays so would watch the recorded services. She missed seeing her special friends at church but was glad to be able to see Pastor’s messages.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Larry Simpson; son, Rodney Simpson; daughter, Ronda Simpson; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Please join us in celebrating Sharon’s life on Saturday morning, March 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cedar Ridge Baptist Church, 742 Buttermilk Spring Road, Galena MO, 65656.

Cremation Is under the direction of the Kissee-Schofield-Eakins Funeral Home, Forsyth, MO.
