Vickie Lynn Cobb, age 67, Galen, Missouri
Vickie Lynn Cobb, local Missouri author from Galena, passed away peacefully December 29, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. She was born May 13, 1955, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, the daughter of Junior and Hazel Cobb, Taney County, Missouri natives. She had one elder brother, Jerry Cobb.
Vickie’s family settled in Ozark, Missouri in 1961, on a large farm where she grew up surrounded by nature. As a young teenager, Vickie discovered the joy of writing. Throughout her life she wrote numerous books. She published several of them under the name4 of Vickie Layton Cobb. She maintained and cherished a true love of animals, nature, and just being an authentic, caring person.
Vickie is survived by her brother, Jerry Cobb and wife, and their two daughters: Sarah Winfield and Rebecca Cobb; as well as several cousins and countless friends, dear to her heart and she to theirs.
Vickie is preceded in death by her parents, Junior Cobb and Hazel Layton Cobb; paternal grandparents, Charlie and Sally Cobb; maternal grandparents, Randa and Ethel Layton; along with numerous other family members.
It is always a challenge to say farewell to someone we love. Vickie herself painted the perfect picture. As she wrote in her poem, ‘Angel Wings’:
“Angel wings taking me so far away,
At last, my journey ends
Oh, and sweet forever begins.
On that beautiful distant shore
I shall live forever more.”
