Virginia (Ginny) Carol Hammond, age 75, of Kirbyville, Missouri.
Virginia (Ginny) Carol Hammond, age 75, of Kirbyville, Missouri, passed away August 27, 2022, at her home with loved ones nearby. She entered this life July 25, 1947, in Newton, New Jersey, the daughter of William and Carol (Fritts) Mills. Growing up in New Jersey, Ginny started as an operator for Bell Telephone Company until she met Dwain. They fell in love, got married, and worked their multiple farms and trail rides at their Rusty D Ranch throughout Sussex County. The animals they raised provided advertising for several well-known companies and starred in many shows in New York City during the late 60s, 70s, and early 80s. Some examples are that one of their cows had been the face of Hershey's Chocolate, their pig was Oscar the Grouch's on Sesame Street, and a variety of animals from horses to camels performed in Radio City Music Hall, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Captain Kangaroo show. In 1983, Ginny moved to the Ozarks with her husband, Dwain, and their two daughters to start farming in the Kirbyville area. Ginny was an excellent cook and always made sure to provide a nice meal for the family and any visitors that came by to visit or work. They were a true farm family and the stories being told, with trips down memory lane, will last lifetimes to come. She will be greatly missed.
Preceding Virginia in death are her parents; husband, William Dwain Hammond; and brother, Michael Mills.
Virginia is survived by her sister, Wendy (Stan) Vogt of Hackettstown, New Jersey; two daughters: Becky (Chris) Hubbard of Kirbyville, Missouri, and Billie (Luke) Schridde of Forsyth, Missouri; four grandchildren: Devon (Jessica) Lean, Mandi (Ethan) Forrest, Ashley Hubbard, and Hunter
(Nathan) Crosson; one great-granddaughter, Kailynne Forrest; as well as friends and extended family.
