Wayne Joseph Roerick was born on November 24th, 1960 in Alexandria, MN to Matt and Irene (Birchem) Roerick. He passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long, hard fought battle with ALS on Friday, January 28th, 2022, at Rogersville, MO.
Wayne never let this disease get the best of him. It slowly took his body, but never took his mind, soul, or spirit. He was always surrounded by loved ones who were fortunate enough to witness his determination and perseverance daily.
As a child, Wayne grew up in Minnesota where his family purchased a resort on the lake. Wayne was always eager to learn from his parents, especially his dad. He always told his children work didn’t feel like work, he just wanted to learn. He spent many days fishing, trapping, and being outdoors. He loved snowmobiling, ice fishing and spending summers with his cousins at the family resort.
The Roerick family moved to Rockaway Beach in the late 70’s where Wayne married Sherry Fedora (Lee) and together they had two children, a son Brandon and daughter Alisha. He owned Taneycomo Market (mini-mart), and took great pride in the store. He made many friends while owning the store and most of those relationships last to this day. Wayne was diagnosed with ALS in 1990 and was given 3-5 years to live, but that never slowed him down. Everyone who knew Wayne knew he was the definition of hard work and perseverance. He was determined to watch his kids grow up, start their own families, and become a PAPA. He prided himself in always being there for his kids and showing them how to be self sufficient in life. He never missed a baseball or softball game his kids were in. He loved walleye fishing, deer hunting, and arrowhead hunting with his children. He was an avid STL Cardinals and KC Chiefs fan. Wayne was known for being such an inspiration to so many people, for his quick wit, and his love for life. His kids were his best friends and will always cherish the special bond they shared. He loved his grandkids more than words can say, Wayne would light up with happiness when they were near. Wayne had a relationship with God and what a joyous welcoming he must have received. Wayne is survived by his son Brandon (Cyndi) Roerick of Rogersville, MO; daughter Alisha (Ty) Treese of Springfield, MO; first wife Sherry Lee of Rogersville, MO; brothers Dale Roerick of Branson, MO; Matt (Rachel) Roerick of Rogersville, MO; grandchildren Nixon, Caydence, Kyson, and Cruze. He was preceded in death by brother Ken Roerick of Ozark, MO Gina Lee of Rockaway Beach, MO., and his parents. A celebration of life will be held on Thur. Feb. 10 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Whelchel Grace funeral Home.
